Emma Deaker and Sarah Poynton joined forces in 2018. At the time, they were both building their buy to let portfolios and figuring their way across the chasm from not knowing anything about being Landlords to being able to operate compliant and profitable portfolios. The chasm was vast, and their learning curve was rapid.
This experience is what led them to make the decision to launch The Deakon Project Landlord Services as a business.
The biggest challenge they had as Landlords was that they couldn't seem to find an agent that was concerned about the profitability of the portfolio, tenant care and communication, compliance and customer experience in equal measure. All they seemed to care about was getting paid, and often for doing a mediocre job.
Every agent they spoke to seemed to hide fees, make excuses for things that were avoidable with simple forward planning and were always so quick to shove any old tenant in the property instead of moving forward in a way that was right for the tenant, right for them as Landlords for a long-term positive partnership.
